Treatments You Can Trust

How electrolysis works?

A disposable sterile probe, matching the diameter of your hair, is inserted into each hair follicle. A low electrical current is then applied, destroying the root of the follicle. This form of hair removal was discovered by Dr. Charles Michel (ophthalmologist) in 1875 after he successfully removed an ingrown eyelash from his patient using a battery operated epilator. This procedure has been time tested and deemed safe for over 100 years.

Why choose electrolysis?

This is the only method of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and recognized by the AMA (American Medical Association). Unlike other methods of hair removal, electrolysis can effectively remove any hair color, including white, gray, blonde, and red - and safely works on any skin tone.

Am I a good candidate?

Electrolysis is effective regardless of:

  • hair color

  • skin color

  • gender

  • genetics

  • hormones

  • age

Medical conditions or medications relating to the heart, blood, and/or skin should consult with a health care provider prior to electrolysis. Any possible contraindications will be discussed during the consultation.

Is electrolysis painful?

Pain threshold will vary. Generally speaking electrolysis is very tolerable; however, you may experience some discomfort when the current is applied. Sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, may require a topical anesthetic to make treatment more comfortable.

What areas can be treated?

Any area of the body can be treated with the exception of inside the nostril and ear canal.

How long will it take?

There is no standardized timeframe as many factors will depend on your individualized progress. A series of treatments over the course of months is necessary to achieve permanent hair removal. The length of your treatment plan will depend on previous hair removal methods, the biology of your hair growth, individual physiological factors, size of the area, how frequently the area is treated, post treatment care, and commitment to your recommended scheduled treatments.

What about alternative methods?

Alternative methods that pull the hair from the root such as: plucking, threading, sugaring, and waxing, may induce thicker and deeper hair growth. What about laser hair reduction? Laser hair reduction can be beneficial for the ideal candidate and may be recommended prior to starting or during electrolysis treatment. However, laser hair reduction is not effective for all hair types and skin tones. (ex. laser targets the pigmentation, therefore cannot pick up the color of red, blonde, white, or grey hair). Laser hair reduction is not recommended for women with hormonally induced facial growth as it may cause paradoxical hypertrichosis, an adverse effect known to stimulate hair growth.

Prepare for a successful treatment

1. Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment. Well hydrated skin will create a more comfortable and effective treatment.

2. Let your hair grow! We cannot zap hairs that we cannot see. A minimum of 3 to 5 days of growth is recommended.

3. Gently exfoliate and moisturize the area. Removing dead skin from the surface allows the follicles to open and the hairs to release more easily.

4. Wear something comfy! If you are treating the body or scheduled for a long appointment, be sure you are wearing loose-fitting clothing

5. Avoid:

Stimulants (24 hours)

Sun exposure (24 hours)

Retinoids (1 week minimum)

6. Medical conditions or medications relating to the heart, blood, and/or skin should consult with a health care provider prior to electrolysis.

Consultation

The first part of the process is an over the phone consultation. The consult will take 10 to 15 minutes and gives us an opportunity to go over the process, answer any questions, and get scheduled for the initial treatment.

Posttreatment Care

Specific products and recommendations should be followed with general posttreatment care.

1. Apply unscented witch hazel or antibacterial soap followed by 100% pure aloe vera gel daily as needed

2. Apply cold compress to help reduce heat retention and swelling 24-72hrs post treatment

3. Vitamin C Serum and/or Hyaluronic Acid - Apply AM/PM daily skincare routine (cleanser, serum moisturizer)
*Serum is optional and typically recommend post facial treatment

4. Avoid touching and remember not to pick micro scabs (those will go away on their own!)

5. Avoid harsh products - fragrance, glycolic, salicylic, retinoids, etc

6. Avoid sun and tanning bed exposure - Minimum of 72hrs; ideally until skin is fully healed

7. Do not pluck, wax, thread, sugar - Hair removal methods that pull the root of the hair will negatively effect results with electrolysis. Please shave or trim in between treatments if necessary. (Note: Avoid shaving if susceptible to skin sensitivities or ingrown hairs)

8. Stay hydrated - Well hydrated skin creates a more comfortable and effective treatment
